INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLOR*

SYLLABUS

 

 

*This is a series of 8 classes, 2 hours each, taught by watercolor artist J.Montemayor.  The classes will be taught twice weekly over the course of a month, with the goal of instructing beginner and intermediate level students in technique and execution of watercolor painting, and developing artistic confidence in students.

 

CLASS 1

• Understanding and perceiving yourself as an artist; mental foundation for approaching your development as a watercolor artist.

• Familiarization with painting tools, brushes, and paints.

• Familiarization with different types of watercolor paper, and wetting, cutting, and stretching paper to prepare for use.

 

CLASS 2

• Mixing paints and learning the various watercolor techniques and applications, to include washes and cleaning and storing brushes.

 

CLASS 3

• Learning composition, which includes drawing, sketching, and mental perception of the subject matter that you want to paint.

• Learning shades, values, tones, and light as tools to enhance the character of your painting.

 

CLASS 4

• Paint, paint, paint to develop skill in watercolor application.  I will instruct and direct you as you paint, to answer any and all questions.

 

CLASS 5

• Select a subject matter from a photo or magazine as your project painting for the remainder of the sessions.

 

CLASSES 6 THROUGH 8

• Creation and complete accomplishment of your first original painting.

• Instruction in sealing, storing, and displaying your painting.
